Eclipse Apartments
The prestigious "Eclipse" in Somerset Road, Green Point is a 10 level apartment block, another quality building from the stable of Faircape Property Developers.
Cape Brick, the Salt River based manufacturer of quality concrete masonry, was selected as the preferred supplier of concrete masonry to this project.
But where is the concrete masonry? Is this not a clay face-brick building? Well, appearances can be deceiving. This is a concrete framed structure with two skins of infill brickwork. The outer skin is indeed clay face-brick, but the entire inner skins, as well as the basement levels, consist of engineering grade concrete imperial bricks.
The concrete masonry was chosen for its consistency and cost effectiveness. Batch produced in moulds, concrete masonry is smooth and consistent, has unparalleled dimensional accuracy, and because of its trueness of shape it is easy to use and quick to build, giving increased productivity in laying and reducing costs.
The use of concrete masonry also benefits the environment and promotes sustainable building practice. Not only is concrete masonry fully recyclable, but leading manufacturers such as Cape Brick are using recycled crushed aggregate in the manufacture of their products. This has major advantages in terms of lessening environmental impact and gives rise to a truly green building product.
Cape Brick has a long association with Faircape, having supplied almost all of their concrete masonry requirements over the last eight years. Once again this close teamwork has proved its advantages. The site itself had difficult access and limited loading facilities, but close communication and planning ensured short lead times allowing for daily deliveries of smaller quantities.
